Rainy day dog walking tips for the UK

If you wait for dry weather in the UK, you will own a restless dog and a very clean lead.

Keep it short and purposeful

Rain walks can be half the usual distance. Sniffing still counts. So does a brisk loop that gets legs moving without a 40-minute soak.

Kit that actually helps

  • A coat for short-haired or elderly dogs if they hate wet
  • A towel by the door before you leave, not after you remember
  • Reflective gear when the sky goes prematurely dark

Surfaces

Grass turns to soup. Pavement stays walkable. If you use Patch, rainy days are oddly good for claiming quiet streets while fair-weather rivals stay indoors.

Aftercare

Paws, ears and undercarriage. Mud hides in places you will discover on the sofa.

For wider exercise advice, the Kennel Club has solid general guidance. Your walk still belongs to your postcode and your dog.

Try it on your next walk
